چکیده
Plumes from Enceladus may host high molecular weight organic materials. An orbital plume sampling mission to Enceladus would require fine orbit and attitude control to compensate for the instability of the polar orbit, if low relative velocities are required in order to preserve biomarkers of interest. The Roles of Machine Learning in Robust Autonomous Systems
Robust autonomous systems will need to be adaptable to changes in the environment and changes in the underlying physical system. This is especially critical for long-duration missions. For example, autonomous robots that explore other planets for years will need to adapt to degradation in their capabilities and to unforeseen environmental factors. Another NASA domain requiring robust, adaptable...
متن کاملDeep space missions and the issue of overcoming the problem of space radiation
As a member of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), Iran has a long-term space exploration program. Space radiation is one of the challenges facing humans when they go outside Earth's protective atmosphere and magnetic field. Space is an environment that the cardinal principles of radiation protection i.e. time, distance and shielding cannot be effectively ...
متن کاملToward Neuromorphic Odor Tracking: Perspectives for space exploration
Autonomy is an essential factor to maximize the scientific return of exploratory missions, and it increasingly motivates the development of intelligent technologies that reduce the need for remote control or human supervision. is is the case for instance in the fields of rover navigation or on-board science analysis for planetary exploration. Interestingly, some of the tasks involved in such e...
متن کاملDeep Versus Wide Convolutional Neural Networks for Object Recognition on Neuromorphic System
In the last decade, special purpose computing systems, such as Neuromorphic computing, have become very popular in the field of computer vision and machine learning for classification tasks. In 2015, IBM’s released the TrueNorth Neuromorphic system, kick-starting a new era of Neuromorphic computing. Alternatively, Deep Learning approaches such as Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNN) show a...
متن کاملEmbedding Temporal Constraints For Coordinated Execution in Habitat Automation
Future NASA plans call for long-duration deep space missions with human crews. Because of light-time delay and other considerations, increased autonomy will be needed. This will necessitate integration of tools in such areas as anomaly detection, diagnosis, planning, and execution. In this paper we investigate an approach that integrates planning and execution by embedding planner-derived tempo...
